Gerberas are considered safe for cats and dogs and are not toxic. If a pet chews on the petals or leaves, mild discomfort may occur, as with any plant, so it’s best not to let pets chew the flower or drink water from the vase.
Gerbera prefers cleanliness and cool conditions. Immediately after purchase, trim the stem by 1–2 cm and place the flower in clean, cool water. Only a small amount of water is needed — enough to cover the stem, but not deeply (3–5 cm). Leaves and the base of the flower should not be in the water. The vase should be washed before each water change, as gerbera is sensitive to cleanliness. Change the water daily and refresh the cut each time. Keep the vase away from direct sunlight, radiators, and fruit.
