Tulips are toxic to cats and dogs, especially the bulbs and stems. If a pet chews the flower, vomiting, drooling, or digestive upset may occur. If tulips remain in the home, keep them out of reach of animals, remove fallen petals, and do not let pets drink the vase water.
Right after purchase, trim the stems by 1–2 cm and place the tulips in clean, cool water. Remove any leaves that may end up in the water — this helps keep it fresh longer. Change the water daily and thoroughly rinse the vase — tulips need clean conditions. Tulips continue to grow in the vase, so they require regular trimming; refresh the cut each time you change the water. Keep the vase away from direct sunlight, radiators, and fruit — tulips prefer cool conditions. In a warm room, you can add 1–2 ice cubes to the water to help the flowers stay fresh and maintain their shape longer.
