If a pet chews the stem or flowers, mild poisoning is possible, usually not serious, but it’s best to keep them out of reach.
After purchase, trim 1–2 cm off the stems and place the gladiolus in a tall vase with cool, clean water. Remove any leaves that will be below the water line and change the water every 1–2 days, slightly retrimming the stems if needed. Gladiolus drink a lot of water, so make sure the vase doesn’t run dry. Keep them in a cool place away from direct sunlight and radiators; the flowers open gradually from bottom to top and stay fresh longer. You can gently remove faded lower blooms to keep the arrangement looking neat.
