Dangerous
Amaryllis is toxic to pets if ingested. It is recommended to place the flower out of reach of animals.
After purchase, trim the stem by 1–2 cm and place the amaryllis in a tall, stable vase with room-temperature water — the large blooms are quite heavy, so the stem needs good support. Change the water every couple of days and refresh the cut regularly — the hollow stem absorbs water better through a fresh cut. Keep the flower away from direct sunlight, heaters, and drafts: in a cool place the amaryllis opens more slowly and stays fresh longer. When the first bloom begins to fade, gently remove it so the remaining buds can open faster and the arrangement keeps a neat appearance.
