If a pet chews on the stem or flower, it may cause mild stomach upset or irritation. Serious effects are rare, but it’s best to keep Oxypetalum out of reach of pets.
After purchase, recut the stems by 1–2 cm and place the Oxypetalum in clean, room-temperature water. The flower releases a white milky sap when cut, which may irritate the skin. Avoid recutting the stems too often, as each new cut triggers more sap release, which can interfere with water absorption. Oxypetalum needs very clean water, so change it every 2–3 days and make sure no leaves are submerged. Keep the vase away from direct sunlight, radiators, drafts and fruit.
