If your pet chews on the stem or flower, it may experience mild stomach upset or irritation. Serious consequences are rare, but it's best to keep Heliconia out of your pet's reach.
After purchase, trim 1–2 cm off the stem and place the Heliconia in clean, room-temperature water. Change the water every 2–3 days and refresh the cut each time. As a tropical flower, Heliconia doesn't like cold water. Keep the vase away from direct sunlight, radiators, drafts, and ripening fruit to help the flower stay fresh and vibrant for longer.
