Dianthus is considered toxic to pets. We recommend keeping the plant out of reach of pets or considering safer alternatives.
Carnations prefer clean water and a cool place. Right after purchase, trim the stem in the internode (between the thicker joints on the stem) and place the flower in fresh water. Remove any leaves that would be below the water level. Change the water daily, each time refreshing the cut in the internode and rinsing the vase — carnations are sensitive to cleanliness. Keep the vase away from direct sunlight, radiators, and fruit.
