Tulips are toxic to cats and dogs, especially the bulbs and stems. If a pet chews the flower, vomiting, drooling, or digestive upset may occur. If tulips remain in the home, keep them out of reach of animals, remove fallen petals, and do not let pets drink the vase water.
Immediately after purchase, trim the stems by 1–2 cm and place the tulips in clean, cool water. Remove any leaves that may end up in the water — this helps keep the water fresh longer. Change the water daily, thoroughly rinsing the vase, as tulips value cleanliness, and refresh the cut each time. Tulips prefer cool conditions, so do not place the vase in direct sunlight, near radiators, or close to fruit. In a warm room, you can add 1–2 ice cubes to the water to help the flowers stay fresh longer and keep their shape.
